First of all, congratulations on your twenty-five year anniversary!  Twenty-five years is a long time to be doing anything, and I think you've been consistent and principled in pursuing realizations of your ideas, and deserve a lot of credit for that. Considering the occasion, I think it's probably appropriate to start with something retrospective. Why don't you tell me about the beginnings of your work with sound, and your first experiences with noise music?

Thanks for the kind words, Chris. I never think about things like that too much, although it's nice that you said them, coming from you it's quite a compliment! I do sometimes enjoy telling people how long I've been following my creative compulsions, it has it's own absurd impact.

Oh, they're still drones, don't you worry. The first piece, "59 Hz," is 3:22 of what sounds like a ground hum. If you're expecting the guitar to plug in and this humming sound to go away, well, that doesn't happen. The noise is the star. And so on across the album. It's minimalistic and easy to talk over. Sounding alternately mechanical and organic, somehow.

The other one is more like smooth peanut butter. This one is crunchy. Now I'm hungry for Jif. Track one, "Clathrate Gun Hypothesis," sounds like an echoey underwater chamber, an alien life form beside some stalactites. Beside the white chickens. Oh wait, that's "Underwater Plume," I'm thinking of, which certainly does have a dewy vibe about it. "Apologies And Capitulations," sounds like a spaced-out Skinny Puppy breakdown. Several rhythmic elements operating independently, with that tension in the middle. This one is prettified chaos.

Yes.  It was an important document of cassette culture.
I am embarrassed looking back on my own contributions, my review writing was generally pretty poor, and I was often unnecessarily harsh in my judgements (sorry all you hometapers), but excluding most of my writing it was a great 'zine.

Beginning with the humble sine drone, in frequencies chosen at random (by asking Twitter friends to choose a number between zero and twenty-thousand!) I have created probably my most austere & minimalist compositions yet. The sine drones were treated using only equalization & dynamic effects to synthesize the seven complex drones featured on this twenty minute long experimental pure-electronics recording.
